Current Status
🚫 No New Admissions
As of now, the LAH Waiver is permanently closed to new applicants.
However, people already enrolled in the waiver can stay on it and continue receiving services.
- ✅ Still active for individuals currently enrolled
- ❌ No longer accepting new applications
- 📌 No current plans to end services for people already on the waiver
If you’re on the LAH Waiver, you still have access to all covered services. A full list of those services is available in the appendix of the official program manual.
LAH Waiver Overview
The LAH Waiver was created in 2002 and is managed by the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH). Like the ID Waiver and the Community Waiver Program (CWP), it helps individuals with intellectual disabilities who would otherwise need to live in an institution.
What Makes the LAH Waiver Different?
- The LAH Waiver is a “support waiver”, meaning it was designed for people who need less intensive services than those offered through the ID Waiver.
- It helps individuals live safely and independently at home or in the community.
- The LAH Waiver has a cost cap, limiting the amount of services someone can receive each year.
Annual budget limit (as of Jan 1, 2024): $50,000 per person
